Outer island communities are still underdeveloped and women frequently cook on open fires in poorly ventilated confined spaces. Smoke inhalation from indoor fires is recognized as one of the most prominent causes of a number of health problems, including conjunctivitis, respiratory illnesses, and lung cancer. Our project, One Smokeless Stove Per Home, is collaborative PILOT project to provide safer cook stoves technology to women on 5 outer island communities in the Marshall Islands: Arno Atoll, Mili Atoll, Aur Atoll, Mejit Island, and Maloelap Atoll.
