LandMark: Global Platform of Indigenous and Community Lands

  • Aeroport de Paris-Le Bourget 180 Esplanade de l’Air et de l’Espace, 93350 Paris France (map)

Organizers: World Atlas of Indigenous Peoples' Territories (WAIPT);  Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI);  Aliansi Masyarakat Adat Nusantara (AMAN)

LandMark (Beta) is a collaborative geographic platform developed under the guidance of a 13-member Steering Group, including leading land rights organizations and experts around the world.  It provides Indigenous Peoples and communities around the world with an online global platform to let governments, development assistance agencies and others know of the lands they hold and use.

LandMark gathersprecise map locations of the territories of Indigenous and communities willing to be visible to the world, estimates of the amount of customary land per country, and scores of indicators of legal security of Indigenous and community lands at the national level. By shining a light on collectively-held lands around the world, it will be clear to all parties that these lands are not vacant, idle, or necessarily available for outsiders.
